Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Production Manager who is responsible for planning and directing all phases of breeding, farrowing & wean to finish production at APEX Site 1. The Production Manager will implement action plans to meet farm specific and company set goals by communicating with farm supervisors and staff. This role will set schedules based on company direction and customer demand to ensure maximum quality of PIC’s superior herd genetics.

 

The position is based at the APEX facility in Mound City, SD.

You Will

  • Be accountable for the performance and results of a team within its own discipline
  • Manage a generally homogeneous team of technicians and/or supervisors; adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and meet service and/or operational challenges
  • Impact the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality, volume, and timeliness objectives
  • Conduct all people management responsibilities for direct reports, including but not limited to labor management, performance management, recruitment and training and development
  • Ensure appropriate staff training and on-boarding of new employees
  • Create action plans to ensure the achievement of key performance indicators on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Assist in the development of, as well as deliver, the agreed upon budget area of responsibility which includes:
    • Achieve or exceed production targets; and
    • Order feed and supplies
  • Coordination of animal flows and weekly volume objective by genetic line
  • Execute health management programs and health reporting functions across the area of responsibility
  • Maintain record keeping within all software platforms to ensure records are fully updated on a weekly basis
  • Ensure the area of responsibility is accomplishing the following:
  • Adherence to the Company’s Safety Program requirements and guidelines;
    • Adhere to biosecurity protocols;
    • Adhere to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures for animal well-being
    • Compliance of all company policies, procedures and guidelines;
    • Willingness to change plans as needed;
    • Cleanliness and sanitation of the farm;
    • Accurate and timely production information and records;
    • Ensure timely treatment of sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals as needed; and
    • Compliance with all environmental laws and procedures
  • Be responsible for facility maintenance, including directing and prioritizing maintenance personnel and/or contractors
  • Require in-depth understanding of concepts, theories, and principles in the Gene Transfer Center

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; college degree preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience within contemporary swine production systems, partnered with proven results
  • Proven experience working with culturally diverse teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines & maintain accuracy
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems in a production environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications; ability to learn new software programs
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10%
