Role Overview

ABS Global, a Genus company and global leader in bovine genetics, is seeking a dedicated Health Assurance Veterinarian to join our team in DeForest, Wisconsin.

This exciting role involves managing the health and welfare of elite animals, implementing our Health Assurance Program, and collaborating across veterinary, laboratory, and livestock teams to uphold the highest standards of animal care and biosecurity.

The ideal candidate will hold a DVM, be licensed or eligible to be licensed in Wisconsin, and bring strong clinical, diagnostic, and leadership skills, along with a passion for animal welfare, calf care, and disease prevention.

With a competitive salary range of $115,000–$128,000 USD, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for growth, this is a unique chance to make a meaningful impact in a pioneering agricultural biotechnology company committed to sustainably nourishing the world.  The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. You Will

  • Provide critical care to young calf population
  • Provide clinical care to resident bull population
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for sick bulls
  • Direct medical assessment and management of sick/injured bulls
  • Surgery when indicated and appropriate
  • Referral for advanced care when appropriate
  • Herd testing consistent with ABS sire health program and international semen qualification
  • Monitor forage quality and assist in developing rations consistent with nutritional needs to the bulls and calves.  Monitor bull body condition and recommend changes to feeding program to correct over/under feeding
  • Monitor and correct ABS inter- and intra- herd hygiene policy and procedures with and through Livestock supervisors
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to Biosecurity and hygiene policy by all departments
  • Assist Livestock Manager/Supervisor in pest and rodent control program at all livestock locations
  • Conduct semen evaluations of suspected abnormal semen collections
  • Give complete arrival examinations and thoroughly document findings
  • Assess suitability of bulls for use in AI Breeding Program
  • Administer other arrival treatments
  • Communicate with supervisors and appropriate managers when appropriate

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree or equivalent from the USA
  • Licensed in WI and USA Category II Accreditation (US).
  • To become a licensed veterinarian in the US, you must first earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited school. After graduation, you need to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and potentially other state-specific exams. Finally, you'll need to obtain a license from the State of WI
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Interest in calf care and best management practices
  • Interest in export regulations
  • Willing to learn about laws and regulations and think outside the norm
  • Enjoyment in working with animals
  • Desire to promote animal welfare
  • Interest in biosecurity
  • Desire to educate staff and stakeholders
  • Interest in epidemiology and disease spread
