Role Overview

We are recruiting for a DNA Extraction technician to support our genetic service provision and implement industry leading genetic services for our clients.

 

This role would be on an zero hour contract basis given our highly variable workloads and will be highly dependent on sample volumes.

 

This role would suit interested students who might be looking for some paid commercial experience during their time in St Andrews.

 

Our lab operates Mon-Fri between 9am - 5pm. Working hours can flexible and based on the needs of the business.

You Will

  • Supporting our laboratory services including:
    • DNA extraction from fish/shrimp tissue samples (e.g. subsampling into prefilled 96-well plates).
    • Adhering to strict standard operating procedures & quality control measures to ensure high standards of processing are maintained.
    • There may be opportunity to support our other external services using flow cytometry & qPCR (e.g. triploidy analysis & sex determination).
    • Responsible for general laboratory maintenance & cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Minimum BSc in molecular biology, genetics or a related field and/or relevant laboratory experience.
  • Basic knowledge and practical experience working in a molecular laboratory setting.
  • Excellent attention to detail & high accuracy.
  • Excellent data recording, management and computer literacy skills (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills.
