Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the elite beef genetics program initiatives by coordinating and performing daily on-farm activities. General responsibilities include synchronization of donors for advanced reproduction technologies, recipient herd reproductive performance, and bull performance test oversight all while working closely with the ABS Global Beef Product Development team and farm ownership.  The position will be based at the donor and bull performance testing facility in Pardeeville, WI.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain defined welfare, biosecurity, and hygiene practices for all ABS cattle on site.
  • Support reproductive management of ABS-owned females including:
    • Estrus synchronization and heat detection
    • Chute side assistance of in-vitro and in-vivo procedures
    • Coordination of embryo transfers
    • Fixed time AI synchronization and breeding
  • Support herdsman in oversight of Bull Performance Testing, including:
    • Assistance in all processing and data collection activities
    • Assistance in maintenance and daily observation of individual animal feed intake system
    • Supporting proper identification, data collection and maintenance of contemporary groups for an effective genetic evaluation
  • Support record keeping of animal ID, synchronization, heat detection, medical care, animal movements, pregnancy status and calving dates at all times, for all ABS animals.
  • Ensure high standards of livestock health and hygiene are maintained for all ABS cattle, by:
    • Daily observation of cattle
    • Feeding, bedding, facility hygiene and manure removal as needed to support farm staff
    • Low stress handling of, and a proper attitude toward animals always
    • Proper administration of all health and welfare related SOP’s
  • Ensure the image and service orientation of the department and ABS always remains professional. To Include:
  • Maintain professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors always
  • Be flexible with respect to job responsibilities and hours and consistently strive to be an effective team member
  • Display willingness to perform non-routine tasks as needed to ensure overall productivity is high
  • Partake in bi-weekly meetings with the Genetic Nucleus team


  • Pursuit of Bachelors or Associates Degree in Animal Science or related field
  • Beef cattle handling experience gained through industry and/or farming/ranching experience
  • Good computer skills with specific knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and herd management software
  • Cattle reproduction knowledge or coursework
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Willing to relocate if need be (we help with some housing costs for this)
