PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Production Supervisor at one of our nucleus farms. This role oversees the farrowing production operations, including routine swine care and data collection of a 2800+ capacity genetic nucleus sow farm. This role will set schedules, provide and monitor animal care from birth to wean, and help coordinate staffing resources to ensure maximum quality of PIC’s superior herd genetics.
This role is based at the APEX facility in Mound City, South Dakota. Limited travel is required approximately 5–10% based on production needs. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
The salary range for this position is between $53,000 - $65,000 USD per year. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Possess an understanding and application of procedures and concepts within the farrowing department and basic knowledge of other departments
Set priorities for the farrowing team to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with other Supervisors
Make decisions that are guided by policies, procedures and business plans; you will receive guidance and oversight from the Site Manager
Supervise the daily activities of farrowing production team
Hold formal supervisory responsibilities, such as coaching employees to meet daily deadlines
Use judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
Use tact and diplomacy to exchange information and handle sensitive issues
Train novice employees on the most current Standard Operating Procedures
Ensure animals are moved and efficient animal flows are maintained
Ensure multiple areas on the farm are sanitized and washed using high pressure equipment
Verify accurate and timely production information and records are maintained
Ensure the timely treatment of sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals as required, and following the guidelines for timely euthanasia as required
Ensure barn maintenance, office cleanliness and laundry duties are complete
Ensure daily animal husbandry tasks are completed
Implement change plans in accordance with farm needs
Implement and hold others accountable for following the Company’s animal care policies and procedures, safety program, bio-security protocols as well as compliance with all environmental laws and procedures
Complete the required tasks of all other duties as assigned necessary, for the care of the swine and/or swine facility
A minimum of two (2) years of experience within contemporary swine production systems, partnered with proven results
Able to manage a team of 8+ employees
Proven experience working with culturally diverse teams in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines & maintain accuracy
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems in a production environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications; ability to learn new software programs
Proven knowledge of contemporary record keeping systems within contemporary swine production systems
Travel a maximum of 5-10%, based on production needs
Ability to work hours needed operationally, which can vary frequently and include weekend, evening, holidays and emergency situations
