Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated professional to join our team as a De Novo Genetics Nucleus Herd Intern at our New Albin, IA and Caledonia, MN locations.  De Novo Genetics owns many of the world’s elite Holstein females, housed at De-Su Holsteins, and produces genetically superior sires for ABS Global.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent care of De Novo heifer and bull calves, embryo donors and recipients
  • Assist with the recording of identification, reproduction and other data
  • Perform a variety of dairy tasks
  • Interact with ABS Global Product Development team as needed
  • Follow all safety and biosecurity procedures and protocols
  • Majority of the time is to be spent at the donor and calf facilities (in NE Iowa/SE Minnesota)

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently completed coursework in Animal Breeding, Agricultural Business, Genetics, Animal Science, Dairy Science, or related field
  • Over 1 year of practical experience handling dairy cattle
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional image
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • We help with relocation costs if needed and cover any travel/mileage costs
  • Live and display the Genus values at all times in their day-to-day activities.
  • Maintain professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors at all times.
  • Be flexible with respect to job responsibilities and consistently strive to be an effective team member.
  • Strive to advance your skills and display a willingness to accept future development.
  • Actively participate in company training opportunities to further develop skills applicable to the team.
  • Gain an understanding of the company’s business and the team’s role within the company.
