We are seeking a Research Associate-Lead to join the team in pioneering research to transform the global animal protein industry. 

Role Overview

The Research Associate-Lead will oversee and contribute to a research lab for the testing and development of flow cytometry and cell handling processes for a commercial product. This will include planning, scheduling, and maintaining lab operations. The role will also directly conduct lab experiments including analyzing data and presenting summarized results. This lead role will also provide guidance and direction to other team members in that task. Join our team to make a global impact on one of the biggest challenges currently facing mankind. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as a cohesive part of the research and development team to design, develop, and improve new technologies and biological techniques surrounding semen handling, sexing, and cryopreservation
  • Maintain operation of research lab
  • Manage test planning and execution
  • Weekly task scheduling of lab personnel
  • Order supplies and maintain lab inventory
  • Manage and maintain lab equipment
  • Conduct experiments following protocols and test plans provided or through own design
  • Perform a variety of biological, engineering, and software testing in a timely manner both with
  • groups and individually
  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and monitor semi-automated cytometers used for sexing semen
  • Effectively communicate experimental results in both informal and formal meetings
  • Maintain accurate and specific experimental records and perform data analysis
  • Promote and maintain clean, organized work areas, including cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise and communicates issues with appropriate personnel
  • Support continuous improvement of the lab environment
  • Provide guidance and support to team members


 Minimal Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical, life, or biological sciences OR associate’s degree in a science or technology related field
  • 2+ years of life science laboratory experience
  • Ability to remain productive, organized, and flexible in a fluid and fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-starter and fast learner both independently and with a team
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Able to quickly gain proficiency in processes throughout the lab and to train others
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining the highest level of quality


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Background in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, or physiology
  • Experience in cell-based assays, flow cytometry, DNA extraction, PCR, or microscopy


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials (e.g. chemicals, electrical equipment)
  • Ability to use computers in an interactive manner for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use standard laboratory protective equipment (e.g. goggles, lab coat, gloves)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally
