Role Overview

Genus ABS is looking to appoint a professional member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to manage the health of Genus ABS' world-class bulls housed at the stud in North Yorkshire on a full-time, permanent basis. This opportunity will provide you with a long-term career opportunity and a consistent work pattern (Monday to Friday between 07:00 - 18:00).


As the only full-time Veterinary Surgeon available at the stud full-time, you are responsible for implementing best practices and sharing knowledge of animal performance. You will receive support from the Health Assurance Senior Veterinarian, who regularly visits. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine disease surveillance through blood sampling, faecal sampling and sheath washing of bulls
  • Prompt identification and treatment of sick and injured animals following a protocol-driven process
  • Respond to all internal and external customer calls/enquiries promptly, including export queries, product non-conformity and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)/Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) related queries
  • Complete export-related paperwork in a timely manner
  • Regular communication with the production team to provide updates on bull performance
  • Maintain animal health and medicine records 
  • Continually review, update and enforce biosecurity protocols in line with Genus standards
  • Support to the lab team on aspects of semen quality, contamination, disease and biosecurity


  • Professional member or fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS)
  • Large/farm animal practice experience
  • Full clean driving license with the ability to travel throughout the United Kingdom
