Genus seek transformational change in life-cycle carbon emissions for global livestock protein producers and net-zero emissions from business operations by 2050. In just two years, Genus has dramatically reduced emissions in line with milestone targets and has a series of ambitious investments around bio-gas capture, renewables, fleet electrication, nature and carbon focused soil programmes. You will further refine and oversee the sustainability strategy which is now embedded into the Company's governance structure, research and customer programmes.

Role Overview

The Global Lead Environment and Sustainability Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, tracking and reporting of corporate environment strategy, metrics and targets in areas that include greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reporting, responsible farming, impact of animal genetic improvement, implementation of renewable energy strategies, water and energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling and animal welfare.

 

The role involves the ability to develop partnerships and collaboration within global business units and functions across the company to implement joint action plans to improve corporate performance and reporting in environmental sustainability and corporate climate action. The Sustainability Manager is uniquely positioned to gain exposure to leaders and operations across the company, including research and development (R&D), supply chain, animal product development, corporate governance, and finance, as well as work with external partners and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and maintains the organisation's environmental sustainability programs to reduce the use of non-renewable resources and minimise the environmental impact of operations.
  • Communicates the organisation's sustainability vision and program information in collaboration with our internal communications and investor relations teams.
  • Monitors and drives the progress of sustainability programs consistent with strategies, goals, measurements, and reporting standards.
  • Leads project management of environmental sustainability; identifying best practices and developing plans to deploy these practices.
  • Implement tools to track environmental performance data, benchmarking external metrics and tracking organisations, and monitoring related regulations and risks.
  • Reports on the progress of the environmental sustainability programmes to the Sustainability Committee, the executive management, and the Board.
  • Investor communications experience (working with SASB, ICMA/ Green Bond Frameworks).
  • Developing or working with advanced, model-based Life Cycle Carbon Assessment experience.
  • Managing the annual assurance process of GHG emissions and other environmental targets with KPI owners, the relevant management teams, internal audit, and independent auditor.
  • Responsible for CDP (Water, Climate, Forests) and ensuring provision of data and business narrative.
  • Experience of supporting corporate biodiversity programmes - preferably within agriculture sector environments.
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring climate related risks and opportunities is embedded within and support development of business strategy and resilience.

Requirements

  • Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)
  • Relevant experience in corporate sustainability goal development, implementation, and reporting with an emphasis on carbon accounting and GHG/energy goals and metrics, including science-based target
    • Demonstrated experience preparing, publishing, and communicating corporate carbon footprints
    • Experience of corporate engagement and embedding for sustainability
  • Low carbon project development and appraisal experience - including 'monitoring and targeting' for energy management/ energy efficiency
    • Demonstrated program/project management experience involving diverse and geographically disperse team members
  • Demonstrated understanding of the sustainability landscape in global markets, such as the U.K, U.S., EU, and China
    • Willingness to travel globally as needed
  • Working knowledge of GHG Protocol and carbon accounting and reporting practices, sustainability reporting frameworks, IPCC GHG Project Accounting
  • Experience of managing assurance and disclosure programmes (e.g., ISO14064-3/ ISAE 3000)
