Role Overview

Our mission as a global animal livestock genetics leader is to be an innovative and preferred partner in emerging agriculture livestock technology focusing on animal health and welfare that provides benefits to farmers, consumers, and the environment. We are recruiting an Embryologist to lead the commercial embryo production teams in South Dakota, with key functions of coordinating the implementation of policies and procedures for successful production of bovine IVF embryos. This position will oversee both the field (ovum pick up and searching) and laboratory teams and champion a collaborative team culture. The IVF Production Manager is expected to work together with other US embryo team leaders as well as with the Genus R&D team to ensure the effective execution of cutting-edge embryo technologies that will ultimately advance livestock genetic improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The IVF Production Manager will lead the day-to-day operation of the field and laboratory teams, supervising the team leads for the IVF laboratory, ovum pick up, and field searcher groups.
  • The IVF Production Manager develops and oversees laboratory procedures including but not limited to maturation of oocytes, semen thawing and preparation, in vitro fertilization, in vitro culture of embryos, cryopreservation and loading fresh or frozen embryos.
  • The IVF Production Manager will serve as the subject matter expert and resource for the commercial IVF production team and educate team members.
  • The IVF Production Manager will champion a strong continuous improvement culture to ensure a positive, customer-centric experience.
  • The IVF Production Manager will analyze and present production data both internally and externally (customers) for the purposes of identify trends and establishing processes and initiatives for improvement.
  • The IVF Production Manager will work closely with the Strategic Embryo Account Manager to develop customer plans and support business development.
  • The IVF Production Manager will be a key resource for client inquiries, remaining proactive in communication and identify opportunities for optimized performance.
  • The IVF Production Manager will work together with the US Embryo Transfer Manager to analyze reproductive performance of IVF embryos and support customers plans for success.
  • The IVF Production Manager will work closely with the Reproductive Biology Director and R&D IVF Team lead to review and identify research projects relevant to commercial embryo production.
  • The IVF Production Manager will lead the achievement of forecasted production goals and play and active role in the financial budget of the field and laboratory groups.
  • The IVF Production Manager will provide knowledge and technical support to other ABS team members in the embryology and bovine reproduction fields and related areas, and provide training as necessary.
  • The IVF Production Manager, together with the R&D Commercial Liaison Embryologist, will lead the deployment of new techniques and technologies to the commercial IVF embryo program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, or related field required. Advanced Degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant field is beneficial.
  • Experience leading, training, and developing teams.
  • In-depth technical and scientific knowledge of bovine IVF, embryology and reproductive physiology.
  • Experience communicating with customers and key stakeholders for the purpose of consulting and result improvement
  • Advanced English skills required.
  • An in depth understanding of oocyte and pre-implantation embryo physiology, and assisted reproductive technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of IVF laboratory operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to deploy SOPs and production plans to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and presenting production data.
  • Excels at interpersonal relationships, with a positive attitude towards others.
