Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for an Owned Production Leadership Trainee who is responsible for continuing daily work in the operation of a swine unit while focusing on developing leadership skills with additional production management competencies. The Owned Production Leadership Trainee will be prepared to advance into a swine production leadership role. 

 

The position is based at our facility in Scottsville, KY.

You Will

  • Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and farm goals, including but not limited to:  
    • Daily animal husbandry tasks 
    • Maintain accurate and timely production information and records as required  
    • Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows  
    • Treat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required  
    • Assist with maintaining barn, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas on the farm using high pressure equipment, as well as office cleanliness and laundry duties  
  • Contribute to change plans, demonstrating openness and implementing changes positively 
  • Attend monthly leadership training including but not limited to Recruitment and Selection, Onboarding, Managing Difficult Conversations, Performance Management, Effectively Leading a Team, Change Management  
  • Act as a leader/supervisor of an assigned department with oversight of Production Manager in absence of Production Supervisor 
  • Be given production management exposure, including but not limited to environmental/ventilation training, feed orders, scheduling, vet visits/reviews, supply procurement etc.  
  • Adhere to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures including providing a physical environment that meets the animal’s needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia 
  • Abide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including but not limited to:  
    • The Company’s Safety Program, understanding all safety requirements of the job and performing the job in compliance with those safety requirements  
    • The Company’s bio-security protocols  
    • All environmental laws and procedures as well as report all environmental issues immediately to supervisor  
    • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite  

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience within intensive swine production systems  

  • Advanced proficiency in both departmental technical and behavioral competencies required 

  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment  

  • Ability to work in diverse cultural contexts and a fast-paced environment 

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems in an independent work environment 

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills 

  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10%
