Role Overview

The Data Analytics Specialist works closely with other members within the Data Analytics and Product Validation teams.  The specialist will be is responsible for project planning, data cleaning, statistical analysis, economic analysis, data summary and report generation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct data cleaning, statistical analysis, economic analysis and summary on swine related datasets.
  • Streamline data flows to enhance analysis efficiency and reporting.
  • Calculate sample size requirements and proper design for PIC trials.
  • Provide statistical expertise for large commercial datasets to aid technical service team in product support.
  • Ability to access and manage large databases and spreadsheets.
  • Use general swine production knowledge to recognize data errors and validate large datasets.
  • Summarize research findings into concise summaries.
  • Provide training for new team members and customers.
  • Help customers realize the genetic potential of PIC products.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Animal Science, Biostatistics, Ag Economics or related field.
  • Proficient in R software.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within livestock production systems and commercial livestock data analytics with proven ability to positively impact producer performance.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technological systems to enhance the evaluation, dissemination and interpretation of commercial data.
  • Experience with different pig production record keeping systems, financial reports and large databases.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of modern applied pig production practices.
  • Ability to evaluate commercial swine data and systems and to generate intervention strategies to improve processes, production, and financial results.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as both collaborate with and lead project teams across functional areas.
  • Ability to work in and maintain performance own expectations in diverse cultural contexts and fast-paced environment.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and solve problems in an empowered, self-directed/managed work environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software and the aptitude to learn other programs as needed.
  • Ability to travel approximately <10%
