Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Production General Manager who is responsible for the achievement of genetic progress, operational revenue and managing cost parameters within our production systems. This is to be achieved through the development of functional teams focusing on the execution of action plans.

 

The position is a based at the APEX facility in Mound City, South Dakota.

You Will

  • Assist in the development and execution of monitoring programs of pig production and genetic gain
  • Develop relevant recommendations and train the appropriate team/personnel to improve performance, genetic gain, and profit
  • Focus on employee safety, herd biosecurity, and federal/state compliance in environmental and labor regulations
  • Collaborate to create personnel development plans for direct reports and cascade those through the operational unit
  • Be responsible for the achievement of budgeted costs and revenue, measured on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Ensure successful implementation of Standard Operating Procedures to produce repeatable and measurable results throughout all areas of responsibility
  • Measure and report progress to supply chain management, health assurance, product development team, and export teams while maintaining a highly functional relationship
  • Participate in developing new husbandry practices or improve existing husbandry practices for pigs in all phases of production
  • Develop and execute training tools and adapt evolving technologies into daily management
  • Provide management or oversight of collaborative technical projects, as needed
  • Present recommendations, results and experience gained to broader audiences both within production teams and the company
  • Make every effort to see that the company maintains good standards of conduct in dealing with customers, employees and allied industry in matters relating to social, professional, and ethical expectations and obligations

Requirements

Basic Qualifications (required)

  • University Degree and/or equivalent experience of five (5) years within contemporary swine production systems
  • Proven analytical capabilities to link production data with interventions needed to improve system performance and profitability
  • Working knowledge of contemporary record keeping systems
  • Proven experience working with culturally diverse teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines & maintain accuracy
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems in a production environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications; ability to learn new software programs
  • Ability to travel 25%
