Role Overview

This position is responsible for assisting other technicians in routine laboratory and general tasks to ensure agreed upon goals.

You Will

  • Follow the requirements and guidelines of the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Maintain facility biosecurity.
  • Abide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership.
  • Be flexible with a willingness to change plans according to the direction of farm leadership.
  • Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and lab goals.
  • Sanitize and wash multiple areas on the lab utilizing prescribed chemicals and instructions.
  • Maintain accurate production information and update all department records as required.
  • Assist with maintaining lab, office cleanliness, and laundry duties.
  • Prepare semen collections for evaluation including accurate dilutions with a pipette.
  • Perform semen evaluation on raw semen using a computer assisted evaluation program.
  • Operate an automatic dispensing station to properly dispense extender with ejaculates.
  • Pool collections together in the appropriate batch.
  • Operate packaging machines including accurate data entry for dose label information and being able to lift and move the pools of semen which way up to 40 pounds.
  • Package product for shipment to customers.
  • Use a computer assisted evaluation program to check motility of samples from each batch produced.
  • Follow the Company’s animal care policies and procedures including: providing a physical environment that meets the animal’s needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia.
  • Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite.
  • Responsible for understanding all safety requirements of the job and for performing the job in compliance with the safety requirements.
  • Effective communication with teammates and supervisors in order to effectively achieve goals.
  • All other duties as assigned necessary for the care of in the swine and/or the swine facility.

Requirements

  • Previous laboratory experience is helpful.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations.
  • Ability to work in and maintain performance expectations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work requires attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Minimal, if any travel.
