Role Overview

PIC (Pig Improvement Company), a Genus company, has an exciting opportunity. We are seeking Product Validation Research Specialist to join our Product Validation team. This position is perfect for someone passionate about commercial swine research. You’ll have the chance to plan, oversee, and conduct commercial research trials; collect data and prepare data for analysis, while collaborating and communicating with PIC’s research partners to ensure data quality and proper execution of research protocols. You Will

  • Manage and execute assigned PIC commercial performance validation trials to ensure experimental protocols are followed resulting in accurate data collection at the farm and in commercial pork processing plants.
  • Assist the PIC Validation and Technical Services team with in-field implementation of projects and trials designed to increase the success of our customers.
  • Design and write experimental protocols for reproduction and wean – finish trials for internal PIC trials, customer trials, and trials for international customers.
  • Lead data collection efforts on main trial events, including but not limited to farrowing, start of trials (allotments to treatments), periodic weight collections, and end of test (e.g., marketing and carcass data).
  • Proactively communicate with PIC research partners and customers to ensure proper alignment of research goals, protocol execution, and data quality.
  • Manage large databases, using your knowledge of swine production to ensure data integrity.
  • Serve as a technical resource about PIC product value and differentiation to internal and external PIC customers.
  • Work closely with PIC Marketing and Sales teams to develop data-based technical marketing tools that can be presented to customers.
  • Train new team members and customers, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to maximize the potential of PIC products.
  • Collaborate closely with teams across functions, using your expertise to make a tangible impact on product development and commercial success.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • 4-year university degree, animal or meat science preferred; advanced degree preferred
  • Problem-solving mindset with excellent attention to detail, and ability to follow protocols.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrate a high level of respect for both team members and animals.
  • The role requires the ability to stand and be on your feet extended periods of time in some days; frequently bend, reach, pull, and lift up to 50 lb, occasionally lift and pull up to 100 lb with assistance, work in noisy environments requiring hearing protection.
  • Basic understanding of modern applied pig production practices and carcass and meat quality evaluations.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaborate across teams and functional areas.
  • Ability to work in and maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts and fast-paced environment
  • Work requires continual attention to detail and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate in an organized and concise manner.
  • At least 3 years of experience in livestock production systems, with a proven track record in data analytics and driving improvements for producers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
