Role Overview

Genus, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a highly motivated Finance Manager to join our team. The Finance Manager is responsible for providing ongoing support, reporting, and strategic analysis, including ad-hoc analysis, to inform critical business decisions for continuing and new R&D projects.  The successful candidate will lead R&D forecasting, annual budgeting, and long-range planning processes. This candidate has the ability to work and maintain performance expectations in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment and has strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. The candidate can also build effective relationships and influence a variety of stakeholders as well as work autonomously and across functional teams within a matrix organization.

 

The preferred location for the position is in Deforest WI but will consider hybrid coming to the office 2-3 times per year.

You Will

  • Develop and continually refine financial budgets, quarterly forecasts, and strategic plan operating results.
  • Provide decision support analytics for the strategic plan, annual budget, and quarterly forecasts.
  • Work with leadership teams to suggest ways to prioritize spending within target.
  • Manage special projects, including ad-hoc planning and analysis, corporate financial reporting, and budget and forecast requests.
  • Coordinate with the Project Management Lead on project budgets and ensure alignment with financial forecasts.
  • Lead the coordination of the annual budget process for R&D areas, focusing on project budgets.
  • Partner with R&D teams to ensure accurate and timely project data capture without burdening operational teams.
  • Align project capitalization with Corporate Accounting and conduct bi-annual impairment analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis (cash flow, NPV) for new projects, project refreshes, and phase gate reviews.
  • Facilitate financial data for graphical and dashboard presentations for Executive Leadership and R&D leadership portfolio reviews.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Bovine and Porcine businesses to support R&D business cases.
  • Build relationships and develop a clear understanding of emerging business opportunities.
  • Implement and refine financial tools related to budget and forecasting in various financial systems.
  • Implement reporting processes and tools, prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reporting packages, and track critical variances versus budget and prior year.
  • Serve as the R&D financial lead in initiatives aimed at improving the total operating model, developing KPIs, and refining operational metrics.
  • Oversee the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare and review month-end accruals for submission to the accounting department.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis commentary for senior leaders, corporate teams, and cost center managers.
  • Review and analyze monthly profit and loss, and cash flow variances, and communicate these findings to R&D business partners.
  • Create and develop business analysis reports and performance measurement tools.
  • Manage consolidated R&D costs, cash flow movements, and headcount reconciliations.
  • Provide insights and updates to the R&D Finance Director on emerging business opportunities and risks.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and recommend strategies for implementation.
  • Manage reporting processes and tools, and prepare monthly/quarterly/annual forecasts, budgets, and month-end reviews.
  • Conduct business case analyses (cash flow, NPV) and assess sensitivities related to various inputs/assumptions.
  • Ensure all accounting and financial reporting complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Utilize computer technology, software, and in-house applications to automate processes and maximize efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of financial analysis across balance sheet, cash flow, and income statements.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • A University degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of Financial Planning & Analysis experience
  • Proven experience related to the collection, assimilation and presentation of data used to evaluate and explain business models and solutions
  • Proficient in Excel
  • A minimum of two years of experience using Reporting/Forecasting and BI tool packages such as TM1 and Power BI

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, MBA, CPA or CMA
  • Experience working directly within start up or research organizations
